Bath and Body Works Fall Haul

Summer may be my favorite season but I love the fall candles at Bath and Body Works. Okay to be honest I love the candles at Bath and Body Works every season. But anyway the fall scents are out and ready to be snatched up.  I picked up two mini Sweater Weather candles.  I love the scent of these of course but I really love the color.  They are so pretty.  I also got a mini version of my favorite candle, Cinnamon Sugared Donut . I am obsessed with this candle.  Like seriously obsessed.  I couldn't resist this cute mini Vanilla Pumpkin Marshmallow candle.  The lid is just too adorable. As I was waiting in line to check out two travel sized Marshmallow Pumpkin Latte body creams just jumped right into my hands and said "BUY ME!!!" Ulta Birthday Haul

In honor of my birthday my mom took me on a little shopping spree at Ulta.  Oh sweet heaven was I excited.  I thought i'd share with ya'll what I picked up.  

I knew I definitely wanted two specific things. The first was the Carli Bybel 14 Color Eyeshadow and Highlighter Palette from BH Cosmetics.  What a beautiful palette; the packaging is so pretty.  I love all of the warm tones and can't wait to try out some new eye looks. I can't decide which one is my favorite.

 I'm new to highlighter and will soon be experimenting with these beautiful shades.  I'm in love with pink highlighter on the left.  All of these colors are going to look amazing this fall.

The second item on my list to pick up was the Miss Fabulous Eye Shadow Palette from Ulta Cosmetics. I'm a big fan of Jenn Fabulous aka Jenny Claire Fox.  Her nail tutorials on YouTube are incredible.  I only wish I could do nail art as well as she does.  Now Jenn has branched out into makeup with a great set of eye shadows.  One of the colors (top left) is called Virgo so being a Virgo I was all about that. Mitten (top second from right) is a very pretty color as well.

Of course I had to pick up my birthday gift from Ulta; a gorgeous eye shadow from Urban Decay called Midnight Cowboy .  It's described as a pink champagne shimmer with silver glitter. 

I also picked up a beautiful makeup bag by Tarten + Twine off the clearance shelf.  I think it was like $9.  It's huge and very soft.  I love that it has a liner in the middle to help keep things organized. Some other goodies I picked up were the Sexy Mother Pucker Lip Plumping Gloss in Nudestar by Soap & Glory, the Ulta brand eye shadow in Organza and eye liner in Black Plum, a sample of the Fig & Honey lotion by Ulta, the ELF Cosmetics HD Undereye Setting Powder, Great Lash Waterproof Mascara by Maybelline, Neutrogena's Naturals Purifying Facial Cleanser, a travel size Hand Food in the scent sugar crush, a pack of Venus Embrace Disposable razors, OGX Biotin & Collagen Conditioner and a gift with purchase of Ulta cosmetics of a cute purple makeup bag, a couple of makeup brushes, a eye shadow palette, pencil sharpener, eye brow gel, plush drama mascara in black a double ended eyeliner, a double ended lip liner, mineral setting powder, a  matte lipstick in Mulberry, a lip gloss in sheer opal and a nail polish in Aubergine Queen .

Sephora Haul

The bracelet is from Avon; I bought it years ago. The owl and the candle holder are from target I think. As you can see I love pink. I'm sure if I kept looking I'd find some more. One company that has really cute packaging; and yes some of them are pink; is Glossier. I can't wait to get my hand on some, especially the flavored balm dotcom and soothing face mist. Book Review: The List by Siobhan Vivian

I really enjoyed this book except for the ending. The ending seemed kinda rushed and left me hanging. All of the characters were well developed and relatable. The author provides a great glimpse into the lives of many teenage girls. I rated this book four out five stars and would recommend it. 

Book Review: I Almost Forgot About You by Terry McMillan

When she decides to make some major changes in her life, quitting her job as an optometrist, and moving house, she finds herself on a wild journey that may or may not include a second chance at love. Like Waiting to Exhale and How Stella Got Her Groove Back, I Almost Forgot About You will show legions of readers what can happen when you face your fears, take a chance, and open yourself up to life, love, and the possibility of a new direction.(Synopsis from Goodreads) As usual McMillan delivers with fully developed adult characters with everyday adult problems. This story isn't a fairy tale this is a woman like you and me facing the same issues that many woman her age face. I love that she is handling things by herself and not waiting for a man to solve all of her problems. Mcmillan throws a few curve balls at you in this book and keeps you guessing all the way until the end. I definitely didn't predict that ending. Book Review: The 100 by Kass Morgan

I wasn't sure if I would like this book but I was pleasantly surprised. I really liked the characters, even the bad guys. They all were very well developed and believable. Although the names of some seemed a little weird and threw me off a little bit. In the beginning the girls with the boy names kept confusing me. The plot was well developed and fast paced. Kass Morgan kept you turning the page but didn't give away the upcoming plot. I already purchased the next two books and can't wait to read them. Definitely added to my favorites list. Book Review: Paper Towns by John Green

I know, I know  everybody loves this book and this author. To be honest i'm not the hugest fan.  There are two things about his writing that bother me. The first is that his stories are depressing.  I wanna cry after reading his books.  The second thing that bothers me is when he tries too hard by dropping in random huge words that nobody ever uses.  Obviously you can figure out the words meaning from context but c,mon just use normal language.

I was excited to read this book because I love a good road trip.  So i was looking forward to that part of the book.  Unfortunately the road trip was only a small part of the story.  Although the road trip provided my favorite part of the story and that is when Q buys a shirt for Radar.  I actually laughed out loud. I also really enjoyed the part about the night out with Margo.  I loved how inventive and thought out her plan was.   What I didn't enjoy was how drawn out the story was. I figured out very easily how they should find her but it took forever for Q and his friends to figure it out.  Also I really didn't like the ending.  I felt like it was a real letdown.  A friend of mine agreed that the ending was horrible. 

If you're a big fan of John  Green than I recommend that you read this book but otherwise I wouldn't recommend this at all.  I suggest you watch the movie instead. 

Neutrogena Moisture Smooth Color Stick in Pink Grapefruit review

I am a big fan of Neutrogena products so I was extremely happy when I received a Moisture Smooth Color Stick in Pink Grapefruit in my latest Walmart Beauty Box.  You can see my unboxing post here. I tried it out over the weekend and I was really impressed. It went on smooth and felt lick a really nice lip balm.  The color was a pretty pink and looked really good.  I look forward to seeing how it looks with different color lip liners. This lipstick will most certainly be in heavy rotation.   Below is a swatch.

Winter & Spring 2016 Walmart Beauty Box Unboxing

The Walmart Beauty Box rarely disappoints; and the winter  2016 box is no exception. Included are a variety of samples that i'm looking forward to. First we have the L'Oreal Paris Advanced Haircare Total Repair 5 Restoring Shampoo and the L'Oreal Paris Advanced Haircare Total Repair 5 Restoring Conditioner .  I've never tried this brand before but I have a few trips coming up so I will give this a try.  Next is the  Ken Paves You Are Beautiful Smoothing Conditioner, Ken Paves You Are Beautiful Smoothing Shampoo and the Ken Paves You Are Beautiful Thick Conditioning Mask. Again another brand I haven't tried before but i'm really excited about the mask.  My hair needs some TLC. Probably the product i'm most excited to try is the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Boosters Facial Cleanser with white tea and vitamin E. I love every Neutrogena product that I have tried especially the face cleansers.  I have high hopes for this new face wash.  On first impressions the scent is amazing.  Also included is the Aussie Mega Hairspray.  This is perfect timing for me since I just finished my hairspray on my last trip.  This is definitely going with me on my upcoming travels. The final sample included in the Winter 2016 box is the NIVEA Soft Moisturizing Creme.  I have bought this creme twice already and I love.  The scent is so delicate and nice.  The texture is soft and deeply moisturizing. This sample will be gone real quick.  Overall i'm really excited about this box and will let you know what I think.  

First things first will you look at this box.  It is so pretty and so was the products inside.  I was so happy when I open this box and saw all of the great items inside.  First up is Colgate's Optic White Platinum Express White Fresh Mint Toothpaste. This is my favorite toothpaste and it really whitens your teeth and leaves your breath feeling fresh. Also inside was Jergens Wet Skin Moisturizer with Nourishing Monoi Oil. The idea of using lotion in the shower makes me nervous; I envision putting it on and than proceeding to slip and break my neck.  Death by lotion will be written on my tombstone. I'll still give it a try but if you see no more blog posts from me you'll know what happened. Next up is the Banana Boat SunComfort SPF 30 Sunscreen Lotion. With summer coming this will come in handy for all of the trips to the beach.  I'm always searching for great facial cleansers and one of the b est ones I've ever tried is Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser. This will definitely be getting used up. I'm really looking forward to trying out the RoC Multi Correxion 5 in 1 Chest, Neck, & Face Cream. I will probably pass the Curel Rough Skin Rescue Lotion since she has really dry skin.  Dove makes really great body was but I have never tried the Dove Dry Oil Moisture Body Wash.  It doesn't really have a scent but sometimes that is good.  I don't like when the scent of my soap interferes with the perfume i'm wearing.   The product I am most excited about in the spring 2016 box is the Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick in the color Pink Grapefruit.  I am a lipstick junkie and this color is beautiful.  **Does Happy Dance**

Movie Review: Criminal

I was lucky enough to score some free passes to screen to the new Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Costner movie Criminal. Let me give you a quick plot synopsis.  Kevin Costner plays a crazy convict who has a deceased CIA agents, played by Ryan Reynolds, memories implanted into his brain so that the CIA can get all of the information the agent had regarding a terrorist. I really enjoyed this movie.  I love movies with lots of action and this one definitely delivered.  I also love smart movies.  Basically a movie that makes me think always makes me love it more and criminal definitely made me think about whether or not this could actually happen.  This movie is in theaters April and I highly recommend that you go see it.

Book review: First Love by James Patterson

Definitely not your typical Patterson book but worth the read. James Patterson dives into the teen fiction arena and scores a win.  The story of Axi and Robinson is a story of romance that is both beautiful and heartbreaking.  Much like real life.  

I enjoyed and was very envious of Axi and Robinson's road trip.  I wish I ad the guts to just jump in the car and see the country.  All though I don't think i'd steal any cars.  

I gave this book four out of five stars. 

Book Review: 11 22 63 by Stephen King

I am an avid reader of books about JFK and I love time travel fiction.  So obviously this book was one I wanted to read desperately.  I must admit the size of the book scared me. As a result, it took me awhile to get around to reading it.  But I am so glad I finally read it.

 King gives you a great glimpse into the late 1950's and 1960's. I love his details about life during the era,especially his description of how the food tasted and how the towns people interacted with the main character and each other.  The part about the bathrooms in North Carolina was especially good but didn't seem to fit with any other part of the book. The story line about high school in the south during the early 1960's is so good it could have been a book all by his itself.  

I'm sure there are a few inaccuracies but I don't care it was a work of fiction and a great story. I love all of the historical information.  The Kennedy part of the story started slow but that was due to the fact that he had years to wait.  Boy did it pick up in the end though.

I must say I have mixed feelings on the end of the book.  The ending seemed a little dark, scary and extreme.  I will say this I do like that King didn't go with the obvious.  He easily could have played it safe and given us the obvious results of everything being wonderful and perfect.  But he didn't do that.  He made us think and really contemplate what might have been.

I loved this book.  This book is definitely going on my favorites list.  A five star read and highly recommended.

The Choice by Nicholas Sparks

Sparks reminds us that love can be surprising. I liked this book but that it was a little predictable. Such a sweet story. Sparks loves to break our hearts.
